From July 23-31st, Chloé is workshopping her play Issei, He Say (or the Myth of the First) at the Kennedy Center’s MFA Playwright’s Workshop co-presented by the National New Play Network (NNPN). Along with seven other talented playwrights, Chloé will have the opportunity to work with a director, a dramaturg, and actors to develop her play. (Read more about the program and the other playwrights on Broadwayworld.com and at NNPN.org)
Issei, He Say is based on the story of her grandparents moving to Canada in the late 1960s and, amidst post-World War II tensions, they move in next door to a Japanese Canadian man. Through a story about neighbours, Issei, He Say seeks to examine the question of who is to blame for the sins of the father and how can we move past pain in the new world.
This workshop of Issei, He Say is directed by Mei Ann Teo, dramaturgy by Jenna Rodgers, and features four incredibly talented actors (Glenn Kubota, Wei Yi Lin, Jo Mei, and Kenneth Lee).
A reading of Issei, He Say will be presented Saturday, July 30th, 2016 at 10AM at the Kennedy Center.
